Failed to open /dev/cu.Bluetooth-Modem: Resource busy
Lately I have been having problems with my Nokia N95 and OS X 10.5 Leopard combination. They just don’t play so well together. Especially the internet connection over N95 and bluetooth is unstable and unreliable as hell.
Yesterday the connection went down. Naturally I tried to restart it, but the bluetooth connection to the phone failed. I tried to remove and add the bluetooth modem, read network interfaces, but nothing worked. All I got was a message in the Console: Failed to open /dev/cu.Bluetooth-Modem: Resource busy. Even restarting the machine didn’t work.
I googled but found nothing that could help. At last, someone at some forum suggested that deleting /Library/Perferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist might help. As last resort I made a backup of this file and deleted the original. As I went to the Network Preferences panel, it was completely empty. I created a new location and suddenly every interface appeared. And magically the bluetooth was working again.
Edit: Strange. Today I was going to do exactly same steps with a new Macbook Air. But I didn’t have to. Bluetooth Wizard found my phone and installed it. When I went to add new Bluetooth modem, there was none to select. Instead the regular Bluetooth interface was working like magic. The connection worked straight away. Strange I say. The connection was about 100 times easier to made with Air than iMac or MBP. Well, world is full of mysteries.
